Tree View

You are hereGlossary and Definitions > Controls and User Interface elements > Tree View

A Tree View control is a hierarchical presentation of data. Each element is attached to one or more elements directly beneath it.

The connections between elements are called branches. A tree consists of a series of branch objects. These branches (children elements) are represented as indented levels. When a parent item is expanded (make the plus a minus), its immediate child items become visible. When the parent item is collapsed (make the minus a plus), child items are hidden.

The most commonly used tree view is the Microsoft Windows Explorer and the treeview shown in the contents tab of a online help program like this program.
