DLL is a acromyn that stands for Dynamic Link Library.  A DLL contains library functions, small programs or routines that are common to many programs on Windows computers such as opening a window or saving a file.  These files can be can be loaded and unloaded on demand to use computer resources, memory, disk drive etc., more efficiently.  These small programs are not stand-alone software programs, but are run from other programs.
