OS is a acromyn that stands for operating system.  The OS is the program that is initially loaded into the computer when it is first started and is responsible for the management and coordination of all computer activities and sharing computer resources. The OS hosts all the applications that are run on the compuer and handles all the details of the operation of the computer hardware. The OS relieves application programs from having to manage these details.
