A Filter is essentially a data straining mechanism.  Unlike sorting, filtering does not rearrange a list; rather it temporarily hides the rows in the grid that don't match the filter criteria.

Filtering provides the user with a quick and easy way to find and work with a subset of data. The user chooses the column of data to filter, enters a filter criteria and then applies the filter.  The data that is displayed is only the rows that meet the filter criteria the user specified. 

There are different types of filters depending on the type of data in the column, as follows:

Text field

• Begins with - the beginning of the text in the field exactly matches the entered criteria 
• Contains - the text in the field contains an exact match to the entered criteria
• Equals - the entire text in the field is exact match to the entered criteria
• In List (comma delimited) - more than one text criteria is entered seperated by a comma, the text in the field contains an exact match to one of the entered criteria

Numeric field

• Equals - the entire number in the field is exact match to the entered criteria
• In List (comma delimited) - more than one number criteria is entered seperated by a comma, the number in the field contains an exact match to one of the entered criteria
• Greater than - the number in the field is greater than the entered criteria
• Less than - the number in the field is less than the entered criteria
• Between - the number in the field is greater than or equal to one and less than or equal to the other entered criteria

Date field

• Equals - the entire date in the field is exact match to the entered criteria
• In List (comma delimited) - more than one date criteria is entered seperated by a comma, the date in the field contains an exact match to one of the entered criteria
• Greater than - the number in the field is greater than the entered criteria 
• Less than - the date in the field is less than the entered criteria
• Between - the date in the field is greater than or equal to one and less than or equal to the other entered criteria
• Yesterday - the date in the filed is one day less than the current computer system date
• Today - the date in the filed is the same as the current computer system date
• Tomorrow - the date in the filed is one day greater than the current computer system date
• Next Weekday - the date in the filed is the next week day based on than the current computer system date
• Last Week - the date in the filed is within the last week based on than the current computer system date
• This Week - the date in the filed is within the current week based on than the current computer system date
• Next Week - the date in the filed is within the next week based on than the current computer system date
• Next 2 Weeks - the date in the filed is within the next 2 weeks based on than the current computer system date
• Next 3 Weeks - the date in the filed is within the next 3 weeks based on than the current computer system date
• Last Month - the date in the filed is within the last month based on than the current computer system date
• This Month - the date in the filed is within this month based on than the current computer system date
• Next Month - the date in the filed is within the next month based on than the current computer system date
• Days Ahead - the date in the filed is the days ahead the entered criteria based on than the current computer system date
• Days Behind - the date in the filed is the days behind the entered criteria based on than the current computer system date
• Days Behind and Ahead- the date in the field is the days ahead or equal to of one entered criteria and days behind or equal to the other entered criteria
