Excel is an abbreviation for Microsoft® Excel®.  The term Microsoft® Excel® is a registered trademark of Microsoft® Corporation.  Excel is a spreadsheet program designed and created by Microsoft® which allows you to enter numerical values or other data into the rows or columns of a grid (spreadsheet), and then to use these numerical entries for such things as calculations and graphs.
